Hi Terry,
Normally you can get the size, what the product is, the nutritional information and I don't know about the price because I have not taken it to the grocery. Virgie and Hoshi ----- Original Message ----- From: "Powers, Terry (NIH/OD/DEAS) [E]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

What does it tell you about the product? Does it give the brand, size, ingredience, all the imfo about calories and sodium.....
How much of the imfo from the can, box or package do you get.
If you read the bar code on a package of meat, you might get the kind of meat, but would you get the size and price. I do not think so. If you can not get imfo like these, what is its purpose outside the home. You still need someone to let you know the size and prices and experation dates so you can buy the best quality and not get spoiled food. For the money, I am wondering if it is useful enough. Why not just label if you will have to use a reader anyway?

Hi,
Yes it can identify what is in the package by reading the bar code on the
package.

Well, the add on is LESS THAN A THOUSAND DOLLARS WHICH IS A THIRD LESS
THAN
GPS AND I'M GUESSING THAT THE BAR CODE SCANNER WILL PROVE MORE USEFUL TO
JUST ABOUT ANY ONE WHO LIVES ALONE OR WHO DOESN'T LIVE WITH A SIGHTED
PERSON.

This is not meant to be a comparison with FS. I'm just wondering if we
can
ever expect to see something like this for the units we've invested in.

It is true that Freedom Scientific offers this solution, but remember it
is
an add on, and it ain't cheap.

Hi folks,
Maybe this is old news, but I just happened to visit the Freedom
Scientific
web site today. I noticed they have a product which works with the
Pakcmate
which allows the user to scan the UPC codes on common items such as over
the
counter medications, food packages, CD's and DVD's, and personal hygiene
items. Not only will their system tell you what it is and who makes it,
but
it will give you dosing instructions for over the counter medications,
and
it will tell you who is in the particular DVD you are holding.
Pretty neat ha?

I wonder when HumanWare will get around to offering up a solution to the
common everyday problem of knowing whether it's peas or pineapple, or how
much cough medicine to take.
