I thought I would let the list know the frustrations a good
friend of mine has had in figuring out the top of screen command
for the BrailleNote 32 QT Classic running KeySoft 7.- when using
it as a Braille display for JFW 7.0.

I gave her the e-mail address of Greg Brown, the Chief Operating
Officer of Humanware USA to direct her frustrations with the
Concord CA telephone system to as his e-mail address was
mentioned on the list in a previous post from a very unhappy
customer.

I don't know who produces the help text for JFW 7.0, but it
sounds like they forgot the QT model exists.

And using the Space Bar as dot 9 is sure not intuitive to me!

Subject: figured it out, no thanks to Humanware

Today I once again called Humanware's tech support re my use of
the
BrailleNote as a display with JAWS; and after not even a minute
of waiting,
a woman came on the phone. I explained my situation and was in
the process
of demonstrating to her what happened when I tried to do the T in
files
with speech turned on, when I realized that she wasn't there any
longer. Who knows why, but I got disconnected! I call back
again, and
while waiting to speak to someone, I get disconnected again! I
then called
again, this time not even being able to wait for someone and
being forced
to leave a message; and I left one in utter rage, explaining what
I'd just
been through. No one has since called me back, by the way, and
this was a
few hours ago. I then called Humanware's main number and pressed
0. On
came a message stating that I'd reached customer service, but
that no
agents were available to answer the call. I then left a nasty
message
asking why it was that during business hours, no one was there to
answer
the phone, and requesting that they give me the name and address
of the
president of the company, as I was going to write him a letter re
my
horrible experiences when dealing with tech support. No one has
called me
from there, either, of course.

I then went scrounging around in the JAWS Help system and found
info on how
to use the BrailleNote as a display with the computer. Once
again, I found
that the focus was on using a BT keyboard, with barely any
mention of the
QT at all. Some of the eplanations were confusing, at best, so I
ended up
having to do a bit of playing around to figure things out. For
instance,
it said Dot 9 came between dots 1 and 4; so I thought that meant
that Dot 9
was either the G or H keys. Noooo, I eventually figured out that
Dot 9,
which is used in the Top/Bottom of Window commands, is the
Spacebar! Nice
of them to tell me this in the manual, don't you think? BTW,
while I knew
that I use the S D F and J K L keys to simulate the six Braille
dots, the
manual never ever said this, from what I recall. Can you believe
that?

Anyway, there appear to be two commands to get to the bottom of
the current
window, one being the B that I discovered before, and the other
being the
opposite of the command I was looking for to go to the top of the
window. The weird thing was that I didn't see the corresponding
T command
in the command list. I did, though, see Top and Bottom of Window
commands
listed, both of which work, and both of which use that Dot 9 that
I
mentioned before. Need I tell you how irate I am with
Humanware's tech
support, and how little I think of the writing of that JAWS Help
topic? Does F.S. write those Help topics, or does the company
whose
display they refer to write them? In other words, should I fault
F.S. with
the poor writing of that Help topic, or is it Humanware who's at
fault? Boy, am I p****d! But at least I figured it out on my
own.
