I've been trying to find a usb CD drive that would allow us to read files off CD disks directly into our mPower VoiceNotes and BrailleNotes. I suspected that the drive GW Micro is selling with their SmallTalk Ultra system might work but so far, neither of the people I've asked to try it out bothered to test it and get back to me with results. I know that we will not be able to write to the optical disk drives but it would be quite useful to be able to access files from them anyway. I then wrote GW Micro to see if they could test it at their location but Mike Lawler said they didn't have an mPower available to test with. He reported that this drive did work with their BrailleSense though, so there is at least hope it might work with the HumanWare notetakers also if the power requirements are similar. See below for the name and model number for their drive but if anyone with the SmallTalk Ultra is listening, could you please try plugging your CD drive into your mPower notetaker, wait for a minute to see if it is recognized, and then try to copy any file off it into your notetaker. If it works, please get back to the list with the results so we don't have to waste time and money ordering a drive that doesn't work. Also, Mike said GW Micro had no plans to sell the CD drive by itself so if it does work, we need to find a reliable supplier to purchase from. Here is the useful part of Mike's message to me: We don't have a mPower to test with, but the drive does work with the BrailleSense. I don't think we have plans to sell the drive separately. It is an off-the-shelf drive that you could purchase on your own though. The drive model is Lite-On SOLC-2481KX 01C CD-R/RW/DVD-ROM Drive
