Hello. As I understand it, toll free numbers don't cost all that much. I
work for Kurzweil and once asked why we continue to use a toll free number
instead of just letting people call long distance like everyone else. I was
told that the cost for the toll free number isn't that much.
In other words, there isn't much of a cost savings to abandon one if you
have it.

Yes, toll-free numbers cost the line's owner for each call received.

The best comparison is to consider a call to a toll-free number to be an
automatic Collect Call.
