I was so surprised when I heard we were getting a statistical calculator in
7.2. I would much rather have had a good business calculator.
When was the last time any of you needed some statistical data? When was the
last time you did standard deviation or set up a sample group for
statistical calculations?
But when was the last time you needed to calculate a loan payment, finance
some big purchase like a braille notetaker or car for your sighted spouse,
calculate a mortgage payment based on a certain interest or number of years
or refinance your home?
When was the last time you wondered what the future value of your stocks or
bonds was or how your 401K or IRA was doing?
Do all blind students now-a-days go through statistics in high school or
college in their liberal arts programs?
Yes. I guess you could have set all this up on your Excel spreadsheet
provided you were proficient enough at excel to do this, but wouldn't a nice
business calculator with these kind of built in functions have been easier?
As a business major ten years ago, I could have used a good statistical
calculator for the at least two stat classes I had to take.
But what was the rationale from HW that they chose a stat calculator over a
business one?
I'd like to know.
I have absolutely no need for a stat calculator, but I sure could use a good
business one.

I used to use the calculator in the BNS, not even the special check program,
just the calculator. For some reason, though, I just haven't found it as
convenient in the BN.

Hi folks,
I believe that keysoft NEEDS a financial management component like Quicken.
Most sighted people keep a log of their checks. Many keep a budget sheet to
track expenses and expendatures ETC.

Some one is bound to answer this by saying that there's a calculator and a
database program and that this should be enough. I'm not savi enough to do
the leg work to do the math, go from one to the other.

I hope that some one can harness the power of the bn to create an
application where we can simply and easily enter these figures, categorize
them, automatically perform the calculations to let us know how much we are
spending and saving on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis. It would even be
cool if the BN had built in formulas to help us calculate interest, convert
measurements, other simple tasks.

I'm not a math wizzard, I need something to help me do these things. An
economics major a finance expert could probably make a list of the features
we'd need, but I think that if we could just have a BN version of quicken,
we'd be ahead of the game.

I think these things would make our lives much easier.

Thanks for reading!
Rusty
