You'll have to choose CSV file from the File Type combo box when saving the spreadsheet in Excel. Not sure exactly what it is, but I think it's the equivalent of rich text format or even plain text, but for spreadsheets. You will be warned, in that generous Microsoft fashion, that you may lose some of your formatting.
