Jonathan,
I think that a knowledge base type thing would be great.

Hi Sammie, we're always willing to make changes when good
suggestions such
as Rhonda's are made. The issue with most of this thread is that
there is
no substance or specific issues being brought to light. Just
because a few
people say over and over again that certain people are being
ignored, that
doesn't make it true, particularly when there is no evidence
forthcoming.
Just repeating the same mantra doesn't make something correct.
Rhonda made
a very valid point, but no one else has been able to demonstrate
any other
issue where material in the user's guide, written in tutorial
style, is
somehow less complete or detailed than what is produced in audio.
In fact,
dare I say it, audio users could counterclaim that the User's
Guide is far
far more detailed, which indeed it is, and therefore they are
being
discriminated against. I think it is sad when this list is used
to make
accusations without any specific examples whatsoever, and to
Rhonda's
credit, she's brought to light an issue which must and will be
addressed.

In previous messages, I also faield to comment on Richard's
thoughts on
basic how to kinds of articles. We are considering a
knowledge-base type
application, and I think this will be a very valuable addition.
It of
course would be on the web, so accessible to all.

Hello Jonathan,
Thank you very much for your understanding of Rhonda's message
on this subject. Hopefully you can now solve Kathleen and other
members of our deaf-blind brothers and sisters problem with the
audio tutorial.

Hi Stacey, thanks for that, however Rhonda's point is in my view
a very
fair one. What I have been doing is publishing the audio
tutorials as soon
as possible, so people can get a feel for the forthcoming
release.
However, this goes into far more detail than the announcements
about the
next release that we publish, and therefore it disadvantages
people who
can't hear the tutorial. The information is contained in he User
Guide,
but of course it's generally not ready for publication when I
have been
putting up the audio. That is inequitable, and some way or
other, we will
have to correct that for the future so that the publication of
the audio
tutorial is synchronised with when we can publish detailed
information
about how to use the new features in text form.

Once we do this, then the information one has access to in text
is
equivalent to the information one has access to in the audio
tutorial.

Hi Jonathan,
Please continue to publish the tutorials the way you have been
publishing them. I enjoy listening to them before upgrades come
out.

Hi Rhonda, but we publish all User's Guides on the web site.
What
we may
have to do is not publish the audio tutorial until such time as
the User's
Guide is in a position to be published.

[Braillenote] Thoughts on Tutorials and Manuals

Hello, List:

You know me and my two cents worth, <grin>. I realize, Jonathan,
what you are saying -- a person can access the User's Guide to
find out about a product. However, a tutorial determines whether
a person can afford, or can use the upcoming upgrade. If a
person hasn't upgraded yet, there is no way of accessing the
Users Guide to read what is there. With an Audio Tutorial, any
hearing person can access it, to decide whether or not the
upgrade will work for them. My two cents, can I have change
please? <smile>.
