Chris,
The Service Reset is reserved for last resort. It is equivalent to Reset
with dots 4-5-6 on Classic, except that it also disconnects the power
compartment (batteries) from the AC line, thereby updating the power usage
information. When the reset procedure is complete, you need to reset your
time and date and so on. The power compatment is reconnected, which will
give you on updated information on power usage.
