Leslie, I guess that I've talked about it a few months back. To format your CF card using FAT16: 1. Insert your card into your card reader. If the mixed content dialog appears, press ESC to exit it. 2. Go to Start Menu, press enter on Run, and type the following command: cmd and press enter. 3. At the DOS prompt, type the command string as exactly shown (Let us say that your card is listed as drive E:): Format E: /fs:fat 4. After a short pause, the card will be formatted to FAT16. Caution: when upgrading, do not use FAT32 and NTFS file system. IN order to copy the files, you need to enable Show hidden files and folders from the Folder Options, and you should disalbe Hide extensions for known file types.

I believe I once saw the CF is FAT32. Thank you for remind me. I remember the User's Manual told me not use FAT32. I have 4 CF cards. I used to use DOS command line but now I am using Windows XP. How could I format them to FAT? "Format\e:" on START > RUN > ...? Be sure you copy those files just into the "None" folder and not a folder you create yourself. If you do not have a card reader on your PC, it is possible you haven't been able to format the card and it is important that it is formatted FAT and not FAT32. Perhaps you may have someone who can do this for you if you think it may be incorrect. Hope you can sort it soon. If you really continue to be stuck then I know HW can send you a card with the files already on it, but this does cost a little more . . .. -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: "lesliepeterson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Braillenote List'" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 1:54 PM Subject: RE: [Braillenote] For an editor of the instruction for PK Carol, No, my desktop PC does not have Card slot. My new laptop is at Geek Squad of the Best Buy until tomorrow. I will try it later. How did I copy the files? I use PK and PC via USB. ActiveSync appeared on the PC. My hands on PC. I copy the files from the MY DOCUMENT and paste them on COMPACTFLASH. I checked on it and saw both were on CF. Then my hands move to PK and work on PK. I checked PK FILE MANAGER. Yes, they show on CF. Then I followed the instruction as it says, "...main menu... utilities... application.... directionary.... on and on..." I am puzzled the files do not show on the list. They must be hidden or invisible. I did try Chord X, but not show. Weird! Is my PK afraid of the files? Maybe. If you cannot use this method because you do not have a card reader, please explain how you copy other files from your PC to the PK, because there's very little difference. -- Carol [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- Original Message ----- From: "lesliepeterson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Braillenote List'" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, August 21, 2006 12:58 AM Subject: RE: [Braillenote] For an editor of the instruction for PK Jonathan, I read the update instruction for PK. I read something new to me " directly to root/top directory" (#2). Sorry, I do not know how could I copy two files to CF from PC? I did copy them on the MS ActiveSync from My Document and past them on CompactFlash. I checked them by PK File Manager. They are on CF. I did follow the instruction but the files are not show. They must be hidden. I might be wrong way to do. Tell me how could I copy the files from PC to CF? It does not tell me how to copy the files from downloaded on PC to Braillenote CF card. I did copy them to the CF but they are hidden. How could I command them to install the upgrade? Both File Manager and ActiveSync show the files on CF card. I know they are hidden. Could you tell me what to do? NOTE: User's Guide does not have any instruction, too. Indes does not have "install".
