I had a pac mate tns once, and hated the way it handled mail. I
guess the bx an qx do the same things. It would leave the mail
on the server even if you told it not too. I thik this had
something to do with the platform being used.
I sold the thing.

I don't really have any regrets at buying an Mpower. The only
thing that
might get me interested in the packmate is if it handles email
better than
the Mpower.
Even with a direct internet connection, I was unable to get my
email in
Florida at the ACB connection because the Mpower would just stop
downloading
arbitrarily when it came to a piece of mail it didn't know how to
decode.
It was very frustrating. It happened to me twice. Once, my wife
got onto a
regular laptop and removed all spam she could find.
I was able to download over 800 messages, but then two days
later, it
happened again.
I just gave up and waited until I got home to get my mail, over
1500
messages.

Yes, it is a surprise.
As I have said a few times, in November 2000 when I saw the
Braille Note for
the first time there was also a FS product (the name escapes me
now but it
was before the Pack-Mate) it did not even work so obviously my
choice was
the Braille Note and to date at least I have never regretted my
choice.
It might be that the FS products will drastically improve, maybe
that is the
reason FS pursued this, one could hope I suppose but I plan to
stick with
what I have so long as it meets my needs.

Everyone I talk with feels the pack mate is a poorly produced
product. I was
surprised to see how Jonathan did a two part review of the early
packmate
and then jumped to the braille note. That surprised me.
This news surprises me even more. The packmate seems to, from
what I have
heard, have a high return rate because of poor quality. Their
braille
displays don't seem to be as good, either, from the few things I
have heard.
So, this jump surprises me quite a bit.

Mosen has been involved with blindness-related issues since the
late 1980s
and has been in the access technology field since 1999. He worked

New Zealand
was his work to reform the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the
Blind's
constitutional framework to become the Foundation of the Blind.
