He was part of the community, a blind guy much like many of us. He was part guru. He was the guy that people went to when they needed help. He was the guy in the know, for many, the voice on the other end of the radio, or the tutor, the teacher. People forgot, or never thought about the fact that ultimately he was also being paid. This shouldn't discount any of that teaching ETC, but Jonathan was more than a salesman, a spokesman for HW in many ways. The community is so small that this could happen. People don't grow as attached to the CEO of Microsoft or some celebrity hocking something on TV. Many people on this list followed Jonathan's daily life, on his blog, on his radio shows. They received phone calls from him personally trying to solve real problems in their lives. I agree, it's business, but for many folks the BN represents a chance at functioning almost normally, and so for a figure who embodied that, to go to the competition against who he figuratively fought for many years, this is difficult.
