Hi,
You do not have to take it out of the case to use it but the case is less than desirable!

The PacMate is wider and heavier. From what I remember, you have to take
it out of the case to use it, unlike the BrailleNote where you can just
use it right in the case. I'm pretty happy with my MPower and wouldn't
even think of switching.

Guess he'll be carrying a Pacmate wherever he goes rather than an
MPower now. I'm curious. Is the Pacmate about the same size as
the MPower?

In defending the Braillenote, he often said that the open
platform
approach wasn't as important in this arena, because most users of
this
kind of product also have PC's, and use their PDA type product
for
directed applications, such as Email, note taking, etc. I guess
he
changed his tune, but the question is, what does he really
believe? I
also understand, that at least until now, he was not using
Freedom
Scientific products.

You know, What's really sad is that you have to truly question
just how
much confidence you are willing to put in the statements and
opinions of
others when it comes to looking at accesibility products.

This one really shakes it to the core.
