Dear list members, particularly Brian, Chris, and others,
I have tried it, but what you'll get is a simple reset. The reset with all 9
keys, plus a service reset, only carries out Service Reset (Reset+Record).

Hi,

I've never heard of the manufacturer's reset. I assume you mean the service
reset, discussed below.

The service reset is only available on the BrailleNote Mpower. According to
HumanWare UK Technical Support, the effect is the same as if the battery is
removed, then re-inserted, while the BrailleNote is switched on! Obviously,
this reset can cause very serious problems if performed at the wrong time,
therefore HumanWare ask that you call a tech support person if you need to
perform it (see quote below). There have only been two times where I've
needed to perform a service reset, and they were when I incorrectly upgraded
from 7.0 to 7.01, and when the Braille Display failed to operate.

Here is a quote from the BrailleNote Mpower BT User guide:
"C.4 Service Reset. The service reset should only be performed under the
supervision of a service staff member. If performed at the wrong time, it
can cause loss of data and possibly a malfunction that could require you to
return your unit for servicing. It is akin to, but potentially more harmful
than, pulling the plug on your PC while it is working. It is only mentioned
at all in this manual so that users will be aware of the consequences of
doing it should they hear of it from other users."

To summerise, do *not* use this reset unless you absolutely have to!
