Hi Sharonda,

When you download a book from bookshare it is packed as you know. This format
is actually very similar to the .zip format except that there are some
security provisions in the zipped book which require it to be unpacked using
the bookshare unpack tool rather than the usual unzip utility.

The file should have a .bks extension when you downloaded it from bookshare.

If you have the unpack tool installed on your pc, you should be able simply to
hit enter on the name of the downloaded book with the .bks extension and
the unpack tool will automatically start.

You are asked to enter your bookshare password in order for the unpacking to
start.

>From there, you can then move the unpacked book to whatever folder you like or
>directly to your cf card or whatever you wish to use for getting the book
into your braillenote.

You could also unpack the book on your braillenote if you wanted by simply
moving the .bks file to your braillenote and then starting book reader pointing
to
that .bks file. This will start a version of the bookshare unpack tool already
in place on your braillenote and the book will then be unpacked for you after
you
enter your password.

So, there are a couple of ways to get the book unpacked and ready to read on
your braillenote. Which approach you choose probably depends on
whether you feel more comfortable unpacking it on the pc or the brailenote.

I used to unpack on the pc and move the book to the braillenote, but since I've
now done it many times, I've started just unpacking the book on the
braillenote in the first place, but it's really a matter of personal preference.

Hi all,
This is my first time using Bookshare. I am trying to unpack a book to my PC
and then take the unpacked book to my drive to be read on the BN. I need
some assistance in doing this?

I've downloaded the book. It's zipped. What do I do next? Do I unzip, then use
the unpack tool?

Sorry for the question. Please write back. Thanks.
