Okay, I will amend my previous message. Most modems do not have
an off on switch. If you are plugged into a surge protector you
really don't have to worry about lighting strikes. I leave mine
on all the time even during storms. In fact, I haven't always
been diligetn about turning my computer off during a storm
either. Of course, now that I have the BN I could turn off the
PC and then use my BN wirelessly.

The BN recognizes the router, but without the modem nothing
happens, of course.
Tom Lange, I think it was, suggested turning off the SSID
broadcast from the router so that others cannot see it, and I
will suggest that to my husband.
The other problem of concern is lightning strikes. We have very
few of them, and I think that if a storm is imminent, I could
turn the modem off! Grin!

I forgot to say that you might point out to your husband that, if
they meant for the router to be turned off most of the time,
they'd have put a switch for that purpose! I haven't got one on
mine. You just have to unplug it if you need to turn it off,
perhaps for a reset when it's being cranky!
