Flint,
Welcome to the list. To avoid this problem again, when you turn it off it
needs to bbe on main menu or it sometimes gets scrambled. I have had similar
problems but have fixed it by holding down the reset button with the record
button. You need to hold it down for a few seconds.
Otherwise, troubleshoot with Humanware. I hope that they will be able to
address this problem soon for all of us. If happened to me at work and i
lost a whole day's pay. As a logical person, i don't understand the
justification for why this is happening. It is a major inconvenience to send
a unit in and loaner units should be available as a courtesy or at least the
option to be able to rent a unit.

Yeah, it was plugged in, and clearly charging, since the unit got
warm. I was going to give a shot at completely draining the battery
manually (plugging a USB fan into the USB port!) and then starting
from there. If that fails, it's probably time to call HW, unless
anyone else has more suggestions.
This just really seems quite odd; even if the RAM got completely
scrambled, the firmware should be in flash and should not have been
affected by anything done in normal use.... I in fact had been using
the BN only earlier the same day with no issues at all... turned it
off, set it aside, and came back a few hours to what I just described.
It doesm ake me question the unit's reliability, but I'm willing to
try stuff myself to try to fix it before sending it in and struggling
through work for a few days...

Hi, this is a simple thing but have you tried plugging it into power? You
didn't mention this in your message so I thought I would ask.

Wow, I just write in to talk about the SDK and my BN completely dies!
It looks like it might end up going in, but I thought I'd post here
just to see if anyone else has seen this:
1. It powered on fine, spoke "Keyword, resuming edit of..." but it
would not respond to any keystrokes. Even the Menu key did nothing.
2. Powered unit off and back on. Same thing; it read the resuming
message fine but no keys worked.
3. Pressed Reset. Heard one beep. Braille display read "Starting
keysoft" About three seconds later... death.
4. No response from standard reset.
5. No response from SDF reset.
6. No response from JKL reset.
7. Upon performing service reset, the display comes alive for about
two seconds and reads "starting keysoft" but then the unit again dies.
So clearly it's not *completely* dead, but something's very wrong.
Haven't done anything odd lately, just using it in day-to-day
wordprocessing and planning.
Is this unit terminally ill?
