Well it can download your stuff to the Braille Note. I do know that. It is
all in one unit in other words everything you need is in one unit no
installation of anything which is the reason why I bought it. I had lost my
Windows 98 machine after installing an ocr program it just went through and
zapped my reg edit files and a few hundred systems files and so I put my
foot down and said No more of this and bought the ScanAr and have never
regretted it for a single second. It has been probably the most trouble free
machine in this house and it is sturdy, being shipped from Ohio to Arizona
with no ill effects.
It is extremely easy to use. AFB's access world had an article earlier in
the year, I believe about it and they did leave some things out. First you
do have your user's guide right on board and it is very easy to get through.
That's about all I have to say about the machine but it is just one of these
machines which is so trouble-free that it just sits quietly in the
background without a single complaint.
Hope this helps.

Glad to hear that. I have no trouble with Jaws or the BN. I am
pondering over the scan-r or the KNFB reader. Is there any other
storage items it can store on if the cf card is becoming out dated?
Write me directly and tell me a little more about the machine and what
it can do.

I have no idea. I would imagine since it is a reading machine it would
have
to be easy to understand.
All I know is that I haven't got any difficulty understanding my
machine.

Is the current one easy to understand if you have a mild hearing
problem? Does it sound at all like Jows or the BN?

The one I have uses SAPI because it is 3 years old but I do believe they
updated the speech to be Real Speak maybe a couple of years ago.

Hi Mary Ellen,
What kind of speech does the scan-r use?
I don't have one, but was just wondering.

Subject: [Braillenote] A thanks and other things:
First Let me thank publicly the shipping department of the
Concord,
California office of Humanware for letting me know that my
Braille Note is
on its way back. Secondly, I sure thought this voice note was
going to have
another coronary and crash on me again this afternoon. I was
writing when
the thing just quit. I did a reset and I heard the unbelievable
message
"Your Braille Display is not operational!" Well I pushed the
reset button
with no keys held down and bingo everything got put right.
Oh before I forget, The reason why I did the first reset was
before
everything quit I got some sort of an exception command.
I mean everything but the ScanAr has been at Humanware this fall
at one time
or another and I was not looking foreword to sending another
Braille Note
in. Interestingly, the people at the UPS store know me so well
that they
asked me if I were Beta testing these machines because every time
I go in
there I have to tell them what it is I am sending.
I've even gotten to know the prices of shipping. Grin!
Anyway hopefully the Bn will be here like it is supposed to and
the vn can
go back to being my good little kitchen helper.
