Hi Sarah;
Do you put your dazy books in a separate folder from your NLS books. If
not, how can you tell, by the name that they are dazy and what their
format is?

Hi KC,

You may not know this, but Daisy text is really wonderful in Braille.
You can completely ignore the whole audio aspect of Daisy and still get
lots of functionality out of Daisy text, such as in books downloaded
from BookShare. BookShare doesn't mark up their Daisy books to the
extent they could, but you can download newspapers from BookShare in
Daisy and read them in the Book Reader, (with Keysoft 7.2), and the
whole newspaper will be in Braille! You can skip from section to
section and article to article, just as sighted people do when they read
the paper. I'm really looking forward to this, reading the paper has
always been something I wanted to do but was daunted by the lack of
access and the cumbersome methods of obtaining electronic papers. So,
there's some food for thought regarding Daisy and how it can be useful
to a person who reads exclusively with Braille.

As far as file management goes, there's another good reason to upgrade
if you can. In KS7.2, you will be able to arrange your files, not only
in alphabetical order as you have always done in Keysoft, but also in
order of size, date modified, and file type. You will be able to go
into the file manager, go into a list of files, and press enter on a
file and the BN will open it for you in the correct application. For
instance, a text or Braille file will be opened in either the word
processor or the Book Reader, I can't remember which at the moment. One
other nice new thing in KS7.2 is the ability to mark files in a list,
then delete, rename, copy or move them, somewhat like using wild cards,
only with a lot more flexibility. This is done in the same manner as
marking Emails.

In case anyone is wondering, the reason I went into such detail
regarding KS7.2 is that KC and other deaf BN users did not have access
to Jonathan Mosen's wonderful audio preview of the new features. Oh,
KC, there is also a major upgrade to the calculator consisting of
statistical functions, but I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking
about when it comes to such things, so that's all I'll say on that
subject.

I feel you could probably get a lot of use and enjoyment out of KS7.2 if
you can possibly work it into your budget. If you don't have an SMA
now, you can buy one for $195 for the download or $235 on a card, and
that will cover KS7.2 and the next major upgrade.

I hope you find all this helpful.

Sarah

Hi JOnathan,

For those of us who are not interested in Daisy functinality, is
there anything in KS 7.2to justify an immediate upgrade? (I've
used my SMA in the past year and really need to justify the
expense of another upgrade now.)

Kc
