Hi, Kathleen,
You can manually strip out your font styles like bold and italic but you
can't strip out the computer braille dollar sign fm. For some unknown
reason, all Word files read on the BN have these awful markers. The only
way to strip them out is to convert the Word file to a .txt file. But then
you'll strip your formatting, too. Even if you translate your Word document
into braille, the bold font won't read in correct braille but it will show
the lousy font code instead of putting dots 4-6 in front of the bolded word.
I believe there are two reasons for this: first, the version of Duxbury in
the BN is not a full-fledged version and second, the BN uses different codes
than the full version of Duxbury. When you are in editing or automatic
mode, the codes on the BN will show whether you want them to or not. But if
you plug in your BN to your PC and use it as a braille display with DBT Win
in your PC, you can turn the codes on and off.
I have suggested for years that Humanware should modify the codes so we
could turn them on or off. I think they should also look into the way DBT
Win has its codes and implement the codes into KeyWord.
I'm afraid this isn't a very helpful answer.

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] CONVERTING .BRF/.BRL FILES INTO ASCII TEXT &
backthe other way?
I have been following along with interest and have a question about going
from text to braille. I have a word file that gets imported into braille.
When I read word by word there are all these format off and format on with
bold and italics signs between words. Can I strip these out? The original
file is scanned and I don't here any bold or italics in Open book or in
word. Its only when reading.
Thanks for any help!
