Hi Terry and All:
How I happened to fall into a river with my BN:
Before work my wife and I take our two dogs to a park for a walk.
The park is a lovely narrow strip of parkland along the
Intercoastal Waterway, at our town the water is about a half mile
wide and often waterfowl and porpoises are about. A month prior,
while dog walking our auto's window was smashed in and my wife's
purse was stolen. I was not going to leave my BN in the the auto
to get stolen! So I carried the BN with me for security.
I work in a very stressful place, a psychiatric hospital and
treatment center for children. and my home is stressful as well,
my wife being unable to work. I am active in antiwar efforts and
in efforts to make our politicians not totally destroy our mental
health system. And I had lots on my mind. So when my wonderful
lab pulled me sniffing around in a couple of circles I got a bit
disoriented and thought that the river and I had a sidewalk
between us. What I thought was sidewalk was a concrete lip at
the river's edge, about half the width of a sidewalk, but feeling
to me and my white cane like the sidewalk I was expecting. It
was not. So I fell down the 4 or 5 feet into the salty brine.
In truth the land on the opposite shore is a many mile long
island.
I was a bit shaken up, but okay. My braille watch was fine.
But, my cell telephone and BN were dead. I dried the unit off,
blew it with a hair dryer and sent it to Humanware without any
success. Perhaps if I'd chosen a fresh water river to fall into
my story would have had a happier ending.
The good part is that I made the change fm a QT to a BT keyboard
and this I'm enjoying.

Hi JD;
How in the world did you happen to fall in a river with your BN.
Unless
you were using the GPS, why would you even have it in such a
dangerous
plase? Hope it can be fixed. Happy Holidays.

Dear JD:
Sorry to hear of your mishap with your BrailleNote.
I suppose you could check with your friendly local insurance
broker, just get someone to read the listings out of the Yellow
Pages under Insurance Brokers, General.
Lloyd's of London says they will insure anything, but I don't
know if they have specific exclusions, like Nuclear Warfare, acts
of God and falling into a river.
Try calling Humanware tech support, your unit may actually be
repairable after a thorough drying out.
Brian
