John,
Yes, it is a known issue (somebody brought this up a few months back). This is because the internal speaker is mono, compared to external ones, which are stereo.

Subject: [Braillenote] Playing Audio on the
Mpower

Hi,

I have a Voice Note Mpower, and have noticed
that when I am listening to streaming audio, only one channel of the stereo signal is fed to the internal speaker. When I plug headphones in, both channels are there. I have also noticed this when playing mp3 files with the media player.

Is this situation just with my unit, or is it
a known issue?
