It sounds like you have speech "on request" instead of off. Try going to Review Voice (BACKSPACE+ENTER+R or O-chord > R) and setting the "speech?" option to off by pressing "f". That should stop the beeps, and you do not have to set the volume if you want to hear them again; just turn speech back on or on request. Congratulations on your BN!!!

Hi. I just received my braille note mpower 18. I'm wondering if
there is
a way to silence the beep that's heard when backspacing over a
letter.
I'm thinking that might be a bit distracting during class or a
meeting.
It occurrs even when I have braille turned on.
