Hi folks,
Well, it looks like my Braillenote MPower BT32 transplant may have to go in for
repairs, as the Braille display's down for the count. Last Friday, I tried to
do an address lookup and the second I got into the address book, the Braille
started getting faint. Then I got full cells showing up on the left-hand side
of the display and garbled Braille on the right half of the display. Braille
then went away altogether. Very weird indeed. So I did a standard reset and
things were back to normal for a few seconds, then it happened again while I
tried moving around on the main menu and then getting back into my address
book. This really freaked me out as I knew that no moisture or anything had
gotten into the display or anywhere in the unit. So I did a service reset and
all was well for the next couple of minutes, then I powered the BN down. I left
the unit alone for a few days, used it briefly this morning and everything was
cool. Then tonight, wham! the problem was back and now Braille's gone for good
despite another service reset. Now when it boots, the BN says "Braille display
is not operating" and nothing I do will bring it back.
I doubt very seriously that it's the display itself that's the problem. If it
was, symptoms would be something like certain cells not operating, dots being
down and so on.

A little background on this is in order. Last December I had a problem with
the SD card slot and when I sent it up to Concord for repair, the main board
was replaced. My hunch is that the Braille display controllers on a recent
batch of main boards may be questionable, as a similar problem was just
reported recently on this list.

Thoughts, anyone?
