Hi Sammie;
Thanks for some words of confidence. I never thought of giving the card
number when I got my RMA number. Sounds like a lot safer idea.
Glad to hear you have had great success. Usually, on this list, you
hear of the negative side of the picture.
Guess I am one of the lucky ones, since I have not had to send my unit
in for repair.
Thanks for the helpful tips.

Terry Powers

Subject: [Braillenote] more words on repair details

Hello list,
For anyone wanting an UPS tracking number or a call before
additional repairs are made, i suppose the watchword here is
persistence! And, I am very persistent. I ask the HumanWare
customer service representative to have UPS send me a tracking
number and I received a number on the 19th and will receive my
MPower transplant tomorrow, the 21st. When either of my units is
being serviced by Humanware, I occasionally call, citing my RMA
number for its status. Sam, Gabe, Kim, and someone else whose
name I don't remember, has frequently contacted me with
information I have asked the customer service representative to
provide.
Since my BrailleNotes mean a lot more to me than any of those
old clunkers I drove when I had sight, I continually check what's
being done to them and where they are when they are not home with
me. I never feel that HumanWare personnel is too bothered by me
to help me when I call them. The person I speak with spend a
great deal of time researching the information I request, and
with my RMA number they check my repair status and let me know
that UPS will send me a tracking number. It should be noted that
HumanWare does not send this tracking number. UPS sends it and
you must contact UPS at their 1800 number to have your package
traced and you can do that whether you are sending or receiving a
package.

To Terri, I always try to give Humanware my credit card number
when I get the RMA number. This speeds up the turn-around time
because they don't have to call me for the money when the repairs
are completed. The representative tells me the price of the
repair I have requested, and I always ask them to call me if
additional work is required before they do the work. I've never
been disappointed with their turn-around time, and so far,
they've never found anything new to fix. As for trusting them
with my credit card number, Humanware is not the only company I
use my credit card to buy things from. However, I pay close
attention to my monthly statement and will call the credit card
company in a heart-beat to challenge any variances in what I
ordered and what I'm being ask to pay for. I think everyone
using a credit card should always, for their own financial
protection, check their statement when they receive it.
