I was able to sucessfully pair both jaws version 7.0 and the newest build of
Jaws to my pk using com4 and I got this working awesome. I had to update my
bluetooth driver on my dell laptop and am not using a dongle. Thanks for the
helpful tips!

Hi List,
My instructions that I wrote few months ago applies to both mPower and PK
units. You can in fact use Bluetooth connection with any version of JAWS
if the "Virtual Com Port" ranges from Com1 to Combled. From JAWS 7.1,
this range has been increased to Com8. Also, at the list of services
prompt, select ActiveSync (as this fools KeySoft to believing that you are
connecting through ActiveSync, but you are actually using this service to
connect to Braille Display).
Cheers,
Joseph P.S. If I can find the Vista driver for my Bluetooth dongle, I'll
try connecting my BrailleNote via Bluetooth to my Vista computer.

Subject: [Braillenote] Using a Braille Display with JAWS
After doing a search, I found this from Joseph. Hope this is
what you need.
Make sure that BrailleNote is selected as a Braille Display in
JAWS interface.
1. On the JAWS window, go to Options/Braille. Choose "add".
2. Click on Next. At the list box that appears, select
BrailleNote and press Enter on Next.
3. After a brief pause, click on Finish. The Braille Display
is ready to go.
Note: On one of the dialogs, it will ask you for the "com"
port (if your laptop has a serial port).
1. Select Com.
2. Prepare the display:
A. On the mPower, go to Main Menu, then Terminal for Screen
Reader. In KeySoft 6.2, it will immediately start the
application.
Note: Before you select the item, make sure that JAWS is
turned off.
Connect the cable.
note: In KeySoft 7.0, a prompt appears whether you want to use
serial or Bluetooth. In this example, choose serial.
B. Restart JAWS. If you are using JAWS 5.1 or earlier, the
string at the "Run dialog" are as follows: System
Drive\JAWSXX\jfw.exe where system drive is C drive and XX is the
version number. The Braille Display will show the contents of
the screen. This example assumes that your laptop has a serial
port. In order to use Bluetooth, you need some additional items
and steps:
Requirement: BrailleNote mPower with KeySoft 7.0. A Bluetooth
dongle,
JAWS 7.1 or higher
1. Make sure that Windows has recognized the Bluetooth
adapter. For this time, use Microsoft's own Bluetooth driver.
2. Prepare and pair:
A. On the computer, go through steps that has been mentioned
for adding a Braille Display. At the "com port" prompt, select
the "com port" that is associated with the Bluetooth adapter.
Note: In JAWS 7.1, this process has changed. Refer to JAWS 7.1
help for further explanation.
B. On the BrailleNote, go to Option/Connectivity. Select
Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on, and at the search prompt, type
yes.
C. After a brief pause, it will show the list of devices.
Your computer should be listed there. Select it and press enter.
D. At the list of services, Braille Display should show up (or
similar item). Select it, and at the pair prompt, select yes.
If it asks you for the authentication code, type it, and press
Enter. It is now ready to go.
2. Shut down and restart: refer to the instructions above. At
this point, go to Main Menu and select Terminal for Screen
Reader. Shut down JAWS, and at the mPower, select Bluetooth.
Restart JAWS.
Terms used in these instructions: "System Drive": a drive where
Windows is installed (typically C drive)
"Bluetooth": a short range wireless connection that can work up
to 30 feet (10
meters).
Things that you have to know:
1. In order to use Bluetooth connection, you need JAWS 7.1 or
higher on the computer's end, KeySoft 7.0 or higher on the
mPower's end, and a Bluetooth adapter. Make sure that you select
the right "com port."
2. At this time, Braille Display using USB connection is not
supported.
3. Most laptops these days do not even have a serial port. In
this case, you need to use Bluetooth.
