Ottawa Canada

Thank you to the many friends and acquaintances from the list who
offered to try my hair-brained idea of playing Voice Message.wav
files on their Mpowers.

I didn't need everyone who volunteered, so offered rain cheques
to the ones I didn't use.

OK here's the low down:

GSM encoded, compressed voice files will not play on the Mpower.

However, non-GSM encoded, uncompressed files do play. But man
are they big compared to the GSM encoded and compressed kind!

We also ran into at least one situation where the recipient's
mail system treated the attached .wav file as in-line content and
put it in the body of the cover message!

This also happened to a sighted friend of mine on two of the four
or five e-mail systems he uses.

Is there a practical use for this information?

At the moment no, unless you are going to distribute digital
sound recordings to Mpower owners, but it is interesting to know
and may stimulate product development in future.

Again thank you so much to everyone who offered to help.

Brian
