Thanks Nikki;
Glad to hear it is not just in the blindness field.

Hi,

I am not trying to justify anything for HW or anyone else here
but I will say that this company is not the only one requireing
such upgrade purchases. I have had software from other companies
(not blindness related) which was required to be kept up to the
current version or you would be required to pay more for an
upgrade. For example, you could purchase an upgrade yearly for
$15 but if you didn't purchase by a certain time, the price went
up $10 or so. Also, if you got behind a year or more, you would
have to pay for the previous updates before you could get the
newest version. This is just one example and granted not all
companies do this; however, I think instead of looking at this
practice as "price gouging", the companies actually see the
discounted upgrade price as an incentive to help us stay up to
date. I for one am fine with paying for an SMA and basically
getting my updates for one-half price. I messed up last year on
my JAWS program and had to wind up paying $200 for the one
update. I was sure kicking myself.

Anyway, just thought I'd insert a different perspective here.

Sincerely,
Nikki B.
