Hello Ms. Pannett and Everyone,
Um I don't mean to speak out of turn if that's what I am doing; I just
have an observation to make about your note below.
You Wrote:
("Dear Richard,
You can't open a document "/" file from the File manager.")
Um Ok I was never able to do this before I upgraded to KeySoft 7.2
BUILD 47.
Now however even though it is true that I still can not (create) a
document / file from the file manager; I can open a document / file
from the file manager.
I'll give you the BT commands I do not know the QT commands I
apologize for that.
I use a Bt hence I only know BT Commands'!
They are as follows.
To open A Document / file from the file manager menu.
First: press dots' 1-2-3-4-5-6 to make sure your at the main menu.
Second: Press the letter (f) that is dots' 1-2-4 this will take you to
the file manager menu.
Third: Press the letter (d) that is dots' 1-4-5 this will take you to
the directory of drives' folders' and files'.
For simplicity sake we'll use the flash disk so.
Fourth: Press the letter (f) that is dots' 1-2-4 this will take you to
the flash disk.
Fifth: press the space key once or twice.
Sixth: Press the letter (g) that is dots' 1-2-4-5 and then press enter
this will get you into the (General Folder) on the flash disk.
Seventh: press the space key once or until you hear (list Of Files)
then stop for just a moment.
Eighth: Press the space key with the letter (x) that is space with
dots' 1-3-4-6 keep pressing that until you hear (List Of All Including
Hidden Files in General Folder) stop there for a moment.
Ninth: press the space key once or twice and just for simplicity we'll
say that your file / document is called (notes) so.
Tenth: Press the letter (n) until you hear files starting with the
letter (n) keep Pressing it until you hear your file name (notes) and
press enter.
And your in your notes if you want to erase all of them and write new
notes just do the following.
First press the space key with the letter (l) that is space with dots'
1-2-3 this will take you to the top of the file.
Second: Press the back space key with the underline sign that is
backspace with dots' 4-5-6 the unit will say something like are you
sure you want to delete? If you want to delete all of your notes and
write new ones just press enter at this point.
And dodododaaa you've successfully opened a file from the file
manager and you've deleted your notes so that you can write new ones!
I hope that this helps!
("So Faith, Hope, LOVE Remain, These Three; But The Greatest Of These
Is LOVE!.")
May GOD BLESS You And Give You HIS PEACE!
From Your Friend, In OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, And OUR BLESSED

Ok,
Now, opening files.
If I want to open a file on the Braillenote, all I have to do from
the
main menu is press w, then O then if the file is in the folder that
the
Braillenote prompts me for, I press enter and type the filename. Not
that hard and not all that time consuming.
Or, I can press function with 4 on a QT and I will be at a folder
prompt. The Braillenote always remembers the last folder from which
you
opened a file, so the keystrokes would go like this.
Press function with 4. Braillenote prompts "folder name, press enter
for..." (this will always be the last folder from which you accessed
a
file. I press enter. The Braillenote will prompt "document to open?
Press enter for..." (again the default would be the last file you
opened.)
So if I have a file called notes, I can do this.
1. From anywhere in KeySoft press function with 4. Press enter
twice
and the file will open.
Or, I can use the file manager to open files, just as one might use
the
File Explorer on the Pac Mate.
Either way, it really isn't all that hard nor is it slow.
Some day I'll race you! (smile)

Hi Terry,
I guess what I am used to is a system more like Windows, where you
can
create a file, and don't have to choose either a filename or folder
until you're ready to exit and save the file. This means that with
the
notetaker I'm currently using, you can open a new file with anywhere
from two to four quick keystrokes, depending on certain variables.
It
also means that if you're just jotting something down that you need
for
a few hours, say directions, a phone number or whatever, you can open
a
file to write the info down, but don't actually have to save a file
which you might later just want to go in and delete. What your
suggesting seems OK if that file exists, but if it doesn't than you
have
to select all that stuff right up front, which seems time=consuming
to
me.
Best,
Donna

Joseph;
Say she wants the file Notes. Can't she go to general then
to list of all files and type the letter N and then all her
files beginning with N would come up. Then she would only
have to arrow to notes and enter. If it was her only N folder
she would be there right away.

Hi there,
Unfortunately, BN does not have those
function keys found under PM BX. But there
are shortcuts to applications. If you need
to jot down something, pressBACKSPACE with
ENTER with w (FN plus 4 on QT) to go to
Wordprocessor, choose a folder name (General
will do) then at the document to open prompt,
just type a name like "short memo." Then
press ENTER then y to create the file (if it
does not exist). Then jot down your notes
then press SPACE with dots 1-2-3-4-5-6 (MENU
key on QT) to return to Main Menu.
Cheers,
Joseph

MPower
Hi all,
I went yesterday to look at the BN, and have
a question. I noticed how
time-consuming it is to open a new file, i.e.
that you have to enter a
filename up front, etc. It strikes me that
this could be unnecessarily
slow in a situation where, for example,
you're talking to someone and
they give you information that you just want
to jot down quickly. Is
there any way to circumvent the menu system
and the prompts so that you
can rapidly open a new file?
TIA,
Donna
