Let us now look at some harsh reality. HumanWare would have to engage
in quite a bit of development in order to accomplish this. Certainly
they could produce a less robust no nonsense version of their product,
but even this costs money. Retooling, remolding as well as a new
design for the mother board.
Frankly, I wouldn't think that HumanWare would find it a worthwhile
endeavor from a financial perspective. When you speak of improvements
to the current product, just how far can we go? How much can the
current processor and the current memory support? If you like what I
shall choose to call the Keysoft way of doing things, then you must
accept the fact that it will require a good deal of development to write
Keysoft equivalents for some of these programs. Just how much work is
it going to be to write, for example, Keypower? How much work is it
going to take to write Keysheet? (one for PowerPoint and one for spread
sheets)
The features that many complain about are not the reason why Keysoft
doesn't support SSL email, nor are they the reason why Keysoft doesn't
support html email.
The bottom line is, the FM radio and text adventure games are not to
blame for why Keysoft doesn't have some of the other features people
want. I don't play the games, and frankly, the radio reception is
horrible so I don't use that. I personally think that instant messaging
is pure fluff. I teach a lot of people. I meet young intelligent people
who tell me that they are computer wizards. Come to find out, they
spend most of their time on my space or instant messaging. Do they know
what a header or a footer is? Do they know what an Excel formula is? Do
they know how to create a professional looking resume? No!
They sure know how to download music and instant message though;
neitherr of those skills will ever get you a job.
So, in my opinion, we need to realize that the Braillenote will always
be limited.
It is a PDA, not a PC!

I like the idea, but I would like a combination of both;
powerpoint presentations and the media center are both important
to me. I would like to see a basic BN unit--mPower, but maybe
smaller?--with basic software (wordprocessor, planner, address
list, email, calculator, and file manager/utilities). This unit
would cost much less than the current ones because of its lack of
features. Once a person decided to get one, they could stick with
that package or, for an additional cost, start adding things:
GPS, dictionary, internet, games, book reader, media center,
powerpoint builder, expanded wordprocessor, IM/VOIP, and whatever
I missed/did not think up). In this way no one has to have
features they never use and the cost could come down because
people would not have to pay for features they do not need.

Have a great day,
Alex
