I don't believe that the unit would have to be larger and heavier.  I
have seen the Braille Sense from GW-Micro via HIMS, and it is no larger
than the Braillenote and it is certainly not heavier.
However, it would mean that we would have to pay again for a hardware
upgrade, and I know I can't afford it at this time.

This discussion is interesting but has avoided a most important 
factor.   To upgrade to a unit with a user replaceable battery 
would require a complete re-working of the unit architecture.   
We would need to change our mPowers in for a newer unit.

Myself, I would certainly enjoy having a slide in battery, but  
this time I could not justify the cost in time and money.  In 
addition it would seem to me that such a unit would be larger and 
heavier - sacrifices that I would not be happy to make.
