Hi there,
allyes and no. ActiveSync 3.8 should work
under Windows ME. And ActiveSync is free.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Joseph.
Thanks for the welcome, and for the info.
According to the information,
yes, this is version 4.01 of KeySoft. Do we
have any Humanware
representatives on the list who can tell me
if ActiveSync 3.8 will work
with Windows Me? Just curious. And will it
cost me anything to download
it from Humanware's Web site?

Hi there,
Welcome to the wonderful world of
BrailleNote!
It seems to me that you are running KeySoft
3.06 or 4.01.
Yes, HumanWare still sells the CF to PC card
adapters. You can get this from
any computer store that sells CompactFlash
cards for aourd $8.
You'll need ActiveSync 3.8 (if it works with
Windows ME). You can get it
from HumanWare website, or go to
www.google.com then search for ActiveSync
3.8. You can use the serial cable to connect
to your computer via
ActiveSync.
The option to view files is called Explore My
Device function. This allows a
Windows computer to take a look at folder
structure of your BrailleNote.
If you have any questions, feel free to write
to the list.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] Intro and a few
questions.
Hi everybody.
I just joined this list this morning, and I'm
not sure if anyone will be
able to answer these, but I thought I'd ask
anyway and see what happens. A
couple of days ago I received an older model
BrailleNote from someone who
was selling one on a blind ads list for
around $400. There's no way I can
afford the latest and newest models, and I
got it so I could use it for
taking notes at school and for reading books.
It's an 18-cell model, with
the card slot on the side instead of on the
back. According to the
software versions I believe the software is
from November of 2002 or
somewhere around there, so this is ancient
compared to the latest things
that are currently out there at the moment.
According to the manual
Humanware has flash card adapters that you
put the flash card into before
you put it into the slot on the right-hand
side of the BrailleNote. I'm
wondering if they still make them or if
anyone knows where I can get myself
one.
Also, the manual says something about being
able to connect the BrailleNote
directly to a computer and have the computer
recognize it as another drive
so that you can copy files directly to the
unit. The only problem is that
the ActiveSync software needs to be installed
on the computer before it can
be used by the BrailleNote. When I got the
unit all it came with was its
carrying case, the adapter for charging it,
and the nine-pin serial
cable. I'm wondering if Humanware still has
the CD's for the older model
BrailleNotes and if they'll work on my
computer. I'm running Jaws 4.0 with
Windows Millennium.
Just so everyone knows a little about me, I
live in Tennessee with some
friends of mine I met on a chat program for
the blind that doesn't exist
anymore. I grew up in California and moved
here about four years ago. I
just graduated in May with my two-year degree
from a community college, and
I'm planning on going to a four-year school
in the spring and majoring in
music. If anyone had any info or advice I'd
appreciate it. Thanks for
reading this lengthy message, if you've read
this far all.
