Hi Joseph;
I just read the message from Peter. He said he is noticing on his voice
note the verbal output from these Braille errors. I just wanted you to
know, I am receiving them on a computer, with Jaws, and accept the ones
that were spelled out, I have not had any trouble reading anyone's
e-mail. Does this sound strange to you? Why wouldn't the errors come
up on a computer? Is my duxbary correcting them or is Jaws?
When I read the next message I will look at the Braille display and let
you know if I see any errors.
Terry Powers

I am using a Voice Note, and am, therefore, reading these e-mails
with speech.

I am seeing some appalling errors, obviously caused by the faulty
Braille to print translation system.

As a Braillist, I can work out why words have come out wrong, and
what they should be. However, to a sighted non-Braillist,
looking at material produced in this way, they will have no
comprehension as to what is happening, making the blind student
look incompetent.

As both a Braillist and a typist, it has always been my belief
that you should use QWERTY to produce printed material, or
material which is going to end up being read by sighted people.
Braille input should be used when material is expected to be read
by predominantly blind people.

I do have a Braille input product, the Braille Lite, and if I
want to write anything to go into print, and have to use that
machine, I use Grade two Braille input with dot 6 and double dot
6 for capital letters. There is also a way of reading the file
back as ASCII text so you can check it is OK.

I am pleased that I followed this stance when I bought Voice Note
recently. I knew that I would mainly be using it for e-mail and
word processing, writing reports and letters for general use by
sighted and blind people, so I chose QWERTY input.

PETER WILKINS.
