Ottawa Canada Dear Barbara and list:
KS 7.5 build 17, which you downloaded from the Humanware web site has a seriously broken Braille Back Translator. As you are hearing impaired, you may mostly work in Braille documents, not text. If you do work mostly in Braille documents, especially when composing and editing E-Mail, I recommend you do NOT install KS 7.5 build 17. This is because if you compose a document in Grade Two Braille and send it as an e-mail, the BrailleNote will attempt to back translate it into a text document prior to e-mailing and will utterly mangle the back translation. The capital sign and a letter will be treated as a two-cell terminal letter sign beginning with dot 6. Single-cell signs for say this are treated as th t-h sign for the letters "t-h." Some short form words like al for also are left as is in the back translation. However if you habitually work in text files or Computer Braille, the back translation bugs won't bite. Mr. Maurice Sloane of Humanware, Christchurch, NZ has stated on the list he hopes the back translation bug will be exterminated in a couple of days and a patched version of nk.bin released. Having worked in computers, I would give him and the crew in Christchurch until next weekend, September 7 or 8 to exterminate the back translation bugs, verify they are gone for good and release a patched nk.bin file for public consumption. In the meantime, please continue to enjoy KS 7.2 Build 47! Please note other bugs were identified in KS 7.5 build 17, but the back translation bugs are the worst and most devastating! Hope this provides you with good guidance. Brian Brian K.
