I just sent out a test message to myself from an ssla account on
sbcglobal.net and it worked fine. I do, of course, have the pop and
smtp ports set correctly.

There has been a number of people reporting that they get an
"Incorrect
function" error when using Gmail on the BrailleNote.
Our investigations would suggest that the error is being caused by
incorrect port settings:
Gmail requires the POP port to be set to 995 and the SMTP port to
be set to
465. You can also use 587 for the SMTP port.
