Great message Vicky;
The whole purpose of this list is not just to learn the bn line of
products, but to learn how the products work and how they function with
other products. A BN will function alone but we need to know how to
interact it with a cell phone, computer, printer, embosser, stream, KNFB
reader and most likely more. If we do not talk about other compeditive
products, in moderation, how is a new user going to determine what is
the best for him or her. I chose the BN and now the M-power, when I
first saw my computer teachers BN. I fell in love with it. For a long
time I had wanted a Voice note but did not have the money. My office
worked hard to get on the CAP program for the Federal Government and I
finally got a BN. I never did a compairison, so some times it is
interesting to hear a little about what the other products can and can
not do.
I love my M-power and the ability to write anything and be able to read
it when ever I need to. I am losing my sight and need to slowly put
jumbo print by the way side.
Thanks HW.

Subject: Re: [Braillenote] list moderation/was A few thoughts please!

Hi All,

First, grin, no, I'm not the moderator, and am certainly not trying to
be.
However, seeing as folks are expressing their thoughts/concerns as they
relate to this list, I figured I might as well do the same. Also,
before I do that, I will admit that I have no idea of the disk space or
cost considerations that HumanWare must have in order to maintain this
list. And, I, too, of course do appreciate HW making this list
available to us.

Anyway, myself, personally, I'm kind of pleased to see the BN list
livening up again. Sure, it isn't nearly as busy as say a couple of
years ago, judging from the list archives, but it is indeed getting more
traffic than a few months ago. And, as one who still very much likes
and uses the KeySoft/BN line of products, I'm happy to see the interest
in those continue and be expressed on this list.

As for product comparisons and the like, I personally don't mind them,
and think they are often very helpful, in fact. Although, out of
respect to HumanWare and this list, of course I do feel that the BN
family of products, or maybe the Stream or other such HW products if HW
wishes, should be the main focus of any messages sent to the list. I
mean, of course, that a message completely related to a competitive note
taker shouldn't be sent; however, expressing views on specific features
of a competitive product, so long as it relates to how the BN handles
the same features in reference to that product, well, although I'm not
opposed to this being allowed, I'm not sure what the actual list
moderator view is these days.

When I mentioned the list moderator view above, I wasn't trying to be
smarting off or anything, and I certainly will respect whatever request
I know the current list moderator to express. For example, when Dean
was moderating the list, he didn't want product comparisons at all;
however, when Andy was later moderating the list, he said he didn't care
what we talked about as long as we were polite--not an exact quote from
Andy, but I do believe I've retained the essence of what he said.

So, again, seeing as we've pretty much been left to our own devices, so
to speak, by HW as far as this list goes, although I do intend to make
my posts in some way related to the BN/HW products, I can't promise that
I won't mention another note taking device along the way in the
meantime. However, again, just my thoughts, and I'm perfectly willing
to abide by the wishes of the list moderator, should those be expressed.

Hello!

I meant to send this to all the list rather than anyone privately.
Sorry i
picked on the party in question since I met this to go to everyone.

Hello all!

It seems to me that we have been requested in the past to speak about
the
Braile Note family of products only rather than treat this list as a
general
Blindness issues list. This list is available to us as a service of
Humanware. I think we should respect Humanware by discussing the
Braillenot
Family of products only instead of touting the advantages and
disadvantages
of The BN over other blindness products. If someone wants a comparative
product review, I think this should be done privately. This should be
done
in respect to Humanware which is providing this list as a service. I
have
made changes myself and I didn't select either Pacmate or BN. You can
write
me privately if you like. There are many products available now and
more
are forthcoming! It is human nature to say a given product is better
than
another. It matters not whether we feel strongly about our screen
readers
or notetakers. I think we should respect Humanware by answering
questions
about the BN family of products only and maybe touch on other humanware
products. This is simply being courteous to Humanware which provides
this
fine list. I think too for those wishing to participate and are finding
too
many posts from this list, we'd do well to keep the traffic down a bit
so
all can be more appreciative of this fine service from Humanware! For
what
it is worth!
