Ottawa Canada Dear Sammy and list:
No, I don't know for a fact my comments about why Humanware offered the transplant option are accurate, but it would make sense if they are. A reputable manufacturer isn't going to be in a rush to offer a product they know will be unserviceable in a short period of time. Yes, it would be an excellent idea for someone in authority at either Humanware Inc., or Humanware USA to fully explain these matters. Since transplants were available worldwide, it would be fair for Humanware Inc., to comment on that. Its interesting that only customers of Humanware USA have commented on the policy change. Would think Tieman parts availability would be about the same for all divisions of Humanware. Not sure if other divisions offered hardware service agreements or not. You do raise an excellent point about banking the money you would have spent on a service agreement and using it to pay for cleaning, repairs and/or a trade-up. Problem is, many people, including me don't have the self discipline to do this as it is very tempting to raid the BrailleNote maintenance and trade-up fund when a particularly big Master Card bill shows up in the mail. Having a separate bank account helps segregate the maintenance and trade-up fund from other monies, but you could do the same thing by just putting it in your regular bank account and ear marking it in your own books.
