I personally have managed to find 4GB  CompactFlash cards for under $40 and 
16GB for around $100. Check out newegg.com for the
offerings.

The "too much" lies with 16 and 32 GB CompactFlash cards. BTW, you can store
m3u playlists on a different drive, if desired.
