Ottawa Canada Dear Stacey and list:
Since your PC has no serial port, it probably has at least one USB 2.0 port. There are a couple of ways to get a serial port for the PC. 1. If it is a laptop, get a dock for it if it takes a dedicated dock. 2. Use a USB dock (fits just about anything with a USB port. 3. Buy a USB to serial adapter. This plugs into a USB port on the PC and you plug the serial device into its serial connector. As for the connecting cable, the Mpower has a male serial connector so since the serial connector on the dock or USB to serial connector is also male, you need a null modem in the circuit. You can either buy an actual cable that acts like a null modem or buy a null modem adapter for around $10 at the nearest computer or electronics store like Radio Shack. At least this is what they roughly cost in Canada. I have quite a collection of 9 and 25 pin null modems, gender benders and other stuff I've accumulated over the years mostly because I needed the particular adapter at the time and had to run to the store to get one to make something work. Good luck. Brian Brian K.
