Hi there,
I believe the problem is power supply issue. Currently, USB host ports are allowed to supply up to 500 milliamps of power to access USB devices. Under normal condition, the milliamp reading under Support Information Mode (j switch) should be more negative when USB and other storage devices are inserted. A likely solution would be to perform a Service Reset (Reset with Record button) to see if it initializes hardware. In terms of USB devices, I recommend that you install USB driver from HumanWare website.
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [Braillenote] External Drives Not
Responding

Dear Listers,
I recently acquired a 2-gig Sandisk
compactflash drive. It worked fine at first, although I observed that, though the folder list was short, my BrailleNote mPower (a BT running KeySoft Version 7.2), took as much as 15 seconds to open the folder list. Now, I am confronted with a new problem. The BN is not recognizing any USB flash drives or compactflash cards at all. A 4-5-6 reset fixed the problem once, but now nothing works at all; the drives are invisible. Oddly, when I insert a flash card, although no "card inserted" prompt is displayed, a "please wait" prompt stays on the display indefinitely when the card is removed. With the flash drive, however, there is no indication of its presence from the BN whatsoever.
Any tips as to why this is happening and
how I can remedy it? Also, does anyone know why the folder list is so slow on the flash drives? The compactflash cards are about ten times faster!

Thanks in advance,
Caitlin
