Hi, everybody, again,
this is getting very confusing. I called Humanware and found out that I had
to go through some directory route with space t a couple of times, and there
was the file with the .cdb file. It is there, but I can not read it or open
it from the cf card. I did not hear anything about the definition file, and
I did not see it listed, either.
I was told the only way I can access that information without having the
flash drive right there with the address book on it was to copy the whole
file *by hand* onto my computer. An enormous and tedious task to say the
least. I can perhaps get a loaner BN of some description while mine is off
having the battery changed, but even so, I can't read my address book, and I
need that info.
Any suggestions? If it's on the cf card and the cf card is in a BN, why
can't I read the thing?
Alice

Hi,
Just tried this on a BN so might be different, but, you may need to be
careful on what files you copy.
To access the address list you need the .cdb file and it's definition
file.
So, copy or perhaps backup or may be even both, both those files.
What happened to me was I copied both definitions and .cdb to another
directory on the flash disk.
Having finished the test, I went to delete them--just the copies.
During the delete, not having left the copy directory, some how the
original .cdb disappeared.
Got it back from backup, but it was not easy.
I have asked someone in HW who is looking into it.
I'll perhaps post again when I have more info.
Regards,
Steve.

Hi Alice:
If you only want to back up the address book, I'd just copy it.
From the Main Menu, press F, then C. Go to the Flash Drive, and to the
Keylist file. At the "list of files" prompt, press Space with X so that
you see "hidden files". When you see address.cdb, press Enter. You'll be
asked "copy to which folder"? Go to your drive, and I would just put it
in the "none" folder.
As far as your list that you backed up, I'd probably erase that
folder. If there is something in that folder, they are "hidden" files.
Since it says "zero" I suspect it didn't copy.
Good luck with the PK.

Subject: [Braillenote] backing up the address book
Hi, everyone,
Thanks to Shaz, I got my PK up and running again, but it
seems that my battery has to be replaced. It won't hold a charge for
longer than one day.
So before I send in the PK, I've finally gotten around to
trying to back up my address book, the only thing I really keep on the
flash disk, Everything else is on a cf card.
I went to utilities, chose backup, it gave me the option of
putting it into a folder called May 5 08 back up or something like that. I
hit enter, it said something about x files copied and seemed to be done
almost instantaneously.
Being the skeptical sort, I went to that May 5 folder on the
cf card and tried to open the address book to make sure it was really
there. I could not find it. The folder was there, but it said it had zero
items in it.
What did I do wrong? And where is that backed up address
book?
Thanks for help.
Alice
