The problem with every idea which requires background processing of any 
kind is that KeySoft is fundamentally not designed for it.  I myself could 
see instant messaging and IMAP support working beautifully and speech-
intuitively and asynchronously if they were written for a (publically-
documented) speech API driven by separate processes, one for every task.  
And, it's about time the whole of KeySoft did the same.  It's a grief to 
me to see such a fine interface spoiled by some horrible legacy from Lord 
knows when the last product was made for DOS or whatever.  Just think how 
much happier we'd be if KeySoft ran in parallel!
