Oh dear, that's not a good sign. I had the same problem with my
unit about a year ago and ended up having to send it to hw for a
battery replacement. It should work fine as long as the ac
adapter is connected.

Hi. When we charge his bn, it just sitts there looking sadly at
us, it doesn's actually charge. When I ask it to display battery
status, it says, No battery information is currently available.
This may be due to a very low battery level. Please leave the
charger connected to correct this. Ok, fine. We do that for an
hour and a half, and no change. It also just dies whenever the
charger is disconnected. It tells me that the battery gaige is
inaccurate by 100%. I will calibrate it later, unless you have

[Kevin Chao] There are times when a BrailleNote arrives and
contains a
partial charge. However, I would not depend on this being the
case.
2. Would it be wise to calibrate the battery gaige before use?
[Kevin Chao] The batteries are normally calibrated before being
shipped. A
calibration isn't really required unless there is an issue with
the
BrailleNote holding a charge, inaccurate gauge reading or every
month or
three months depending on useage.
3. If an upgrade is necessary, how does this student inrole for
a sma?
Does it
come automatically with the braillenote?
[Kevin Chao] I read somewhere that KeySoft 8.0 will automatically
be
included for those who purchase a BraileNote after January 2009.
So, there
are no concerns for the next year or so. As far as obtaining an
SMA for the
future. It would be best to contact HumanWare Customer Service.
5. Is there anything else he or I needs to know in order to set
up his bn
really well?

6. With the scanner from Humanware that pluggs into your bn,
and you can
transfer files from bn to scanner, does
either device need to be registered with the other in some way?
[Kevin Chao] No, the information is transferred the same way as
information
is transferred from PC to PC, PC to BrailleNote or BrailleNote to
BrailleNote.
