yes, the Gmail interface is pretty good with the BN. don't think activeSync
has SSL issues as that's how I got mine working at first as I didn't have
net for mine at the time.

Activesync should work, at least it has for me in the past. Then again,
using it with SSL may, for whatever strange reason, cause problems? Not
sure, just throwing out ideas here. If it were me, I would get the card
anyway; at least that way you would have internet anywhere and, as pointed
out by someone else on-list, you can use gmail.com to look at email. It is
not quite as nice as an email client, but it works surprisingly well with
the bn.
Have a great day,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Yes, I have tried the different resets without any success.
I wonder if the internet connection I am using makes a difference. Right
now I am using ActiveSync on my desktop (connected to the BN with the USB
client cable) to get on the internet and get e-mail. My intention was to
get a wireless card for the BN once I was sure it could get e-mail b/c
then my e-mail could finally be portable. But I didn't want to invest in
a wireless card until I got the e-mail up and running (which
unfortunately doesn't seem to be happening).
But yes, I am still able to get on the internet with the ActiveSync
connection. So I didn't think the connection could be the problem with
the e-mail. If the connection is the problem, though, I'm out of luck b/c
right now it's the only internet connection I have for the BN.
I certainly appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.
Lauren

Lauren, Have you gone through the resets, and are you able to go online
with
the connection you are trying to use for email?
Have a great day,
Alex

I've used the outlook express settings with my BN and it works like a
charm.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. Since this problem doesn't seem
unusual to you guys, I'm sure together we can fix it. Based on your
e-mails already, the settings have been changed to the following, but
I
still cannot get it to send or receive messages. When I try to check
messages I get "error connecting to pop server: error 10061." Outgoing
messages simply never send. I tell it to send them and I get "0
messages
sent."
New Settings:
BN operating system: Keysoft 7.5
Type of e-mail account: gmail
User name: [email protected]
POP server: pop.gmail.com
Secure connection for pop server: yes
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Secure connection for SMTP server: yes
SMTP authentication required: yes
POP port: 995
SMTP port: 587 (have also tried 25 & 465)
Thanks for the previous suggestions. Those are setting changes I
wouldn't
have thought of. Maybe we can still come up with the right change.
Thanks.
Lauren

Try changing from port 465 to port 25, or 587 if that does not work.
I
ran
into the same thing; Windows Mail worked fine, but the bn took some
tweaking
to get working right. Also, ensure that your username is your
*ENTIRE*
email
address, not just the first part; mine would be [email protected] for
my
username, not just mehgcap. Let us know how it goes!
Have a great day,
Alex

Subject: [Braillenote] Keymail Issues
Hello List,
I'm wondering if any of you can help me get a gmail account working
on
my
Braille Note. I am a grad student and have been trying unsuccessfully
to
get
my school email account to work on the BN for some time now. A friend
recommended forwarding my school e-mails to a gmail account and have
the
gmail account on the BN. But so far, that hasn't worked either. I
have
included some details about my settings below. If anyone has any
advice
on
what I can do to get the account to work, I'd greatly appreciate it.
BN operating system: Keysoft 7.5
Type of e-mail account: gmail
POP server: pop.gmail.com
Secure connection for pop server: yes
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Secure connection for smtp server: yes
SMTP authentication required: no
POP port: 995
SMTP port: 465
These settings were recommended by a friend for use on Outlook
Express,
and
the gmail account does indeed work with Outlook Express. Perhaps the
settings need to be modified for the BN, however.
Thanks for your help.
Lauren
