Brian and others,
The lack of warranty coverage for units older than four years seems to be based on more than just the braille display issue. I have a four plus year old Voice Note that is also past warranty coverage. When my HMA ran out last June, I was not offered an extension either. I do not know if this policy is only for the note takers or also includes products like the ScannaR and Trekker Breeze, etc.

Subject: RE: [Braillenote] service contract

Ottawa Canada

Dear Mike and List:

You mentioned in your message that your Mpower has a transplanted
display from your former BN Classic. If you have the older style
Tieman display with the rubbery cursor routing buttons, probably
the maintenance contract cannot be renewed because of the Tieman
display. This is because Humanware presently has a very limited
supply of spare parts for these displays and thus cannot
guarantee they can repair a malfunctioning Tieman display.

Will you have to pay a lot of money if your unit breaks?

Perhaps, but it all depends upon what is broken and the cost of
repair parts and labor to repair it.

HumanWare sent out an explanation message about the Tieman
displays and service contracts several months ago when there was
a lot of list traffic regarding this matter.
