I do not know if you can buy these cables alone, but you could probably construct one using a kit. Alternatively, you could purchase one of the external hard drives that comes with one. They are similar to what you describe except that the end that plugs into the computer has two wires feeding into it. One wire is like you describe and goes to the hard drive or whatever you are connecting. The other wire is a second computer style USB plug that goes into a second USB port in your computer or bn. This way, the one device can draw power from both ports. However, you must have the main plug attached to make it work; just plugging in the secondary power and not the main port does not work. I accidentally did that once and scared myself because I thought that there was something wrong with my drive.

Tell me more! I have an 80 gb Western Digital Passport drive, but the connector is too small to plug a USB cable into it. It has a cord with a small end that goes into the drive, and then the USB end of the cord plugs into a computer or Apex or whatever. Is your WD drive different, or are you connecting it in a way I'm not understanding? I'd love to be able to use my WD with my Apex.

Subject: [Braillenote] Hard drive

Hello All,
I have been experimenting with different drives, as well as cables to see if I can get my Western Digital Hard drive of 500 gb to work with the apex. I bought a Iomega hard drive that is also 500 gb and although it will not work with the Apex, I thought I would try something different. The Iomega drive came with a cable, that has two usb pluggs, so I thought, what the heck, I will see if it works with my Western Digital hard drive. So, low and behold, if I use the cable that has two usb plugs, with the western digital 500 gb hard drive, it works just fine. I just got it to show up, so I thought before I post something, I better check it out, and yes, I was able to open a file, and read and edit it. Since I know, that Mike Tindell and Sarai from tech support have been trying to help me find a way to use the hard drives, I hope they see this e-mail.
Take care,

Robert Stigile
