People who are disgruntled with how Humanware does business should talk to
local dealers. Sometimes you may find that a dealer has more flexible
options to help you with your product, which may include how you get updates
and upgrades. I had pretty much made up my mind to go with a Braille Sense
Plus, but after talking to someone from ITG in Northern Virginia I am back
to weighing the pros and cons of both products.

It seems to me upgrades to programs are usually in .exe files
or .zip files.
The first type of file is a self-extracting file and the second
is a file
you open using a zip/unzip utility. The programs are usually
too big to
download them uncompressed.

I have always like the BrailleNote line of products, but I won't buy
anything from HumanWare until they start treating their customers with
respect. I've been a customer since 1995 and I'm extremely
disappointed in
HumanWare.

That's why I have bought and use a competing notetaker. Many
people who
used to own BrailleNotes and who used to be active on this list
bought and
use the competition's notetakers.

I've invested a lot of money in HumanWare products and I know
that many of
you have, too. I know many people can't aford to switch. But,
because of
HumanWare's lack of interest in its customers and the poor
quality products
and service I received, I bit the bullet, paid through the nose, and
switched to the competition.
