Hi,
I also concur with Alex's words here.
A file exjension essentially is a marker that tells a computer what the file is and what it contains. For example, a "doc" extension is a Microsoft Word file; a "wma" tells a computer that is an audio file that should be played with Windows Media Player (by default).
When you change an extension, the computer opens the
file using (possibly) "wrong" applications (although some of us have "fooled" around with this a couple years before; I'm talking about zip file instructions that are on my site prior to KeySoft 8.0's release). As Alex have said, try renaming the file (type the file name, then try typing .kwb), transfer it onto the mPower and see what happens. And, another tip: you don't really need to search your mPower to find the file you are looking for. At the "document to open" prompt, simply press SPACE with DOTS 5-6 (RIGHT ARROW on QT) to access recently opened files (it will even work with files stored on the storage card).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Joseph

I think I know what you did, and it is something that most of us have done before. I am willing to bet that you accidentally changed the extension. The extension of a file, just in case you do not know, is the part that comes after the period; the extension of notes.brf is brf. Were you working with a brf file or a keyword braille file? If brf, find the file on the pc and rename it with a .brf extension; if keyword braille, rename it with a .kwb extension. The bn will hide
this extension by default, but the pc will not. Let us know what
happens!

again another weird problem. Did you try listing all (including
hidden) files on the braillenote?

Subject: [Braillenote] I can no longer access my file

hey, Braille Noters,

It's paula. I've done something stupid. In my defense i'll just
say
that i was tired and should have stopped working before i did
this.

I was looking for a particular file on the MPower Bt and couldn't
find
it. I couldn't remember what folder i put the file in. so, i
get
this brilliant idea to just pop my compact flash card into the
computer and search for it that way. It seemed quicker. It was.
I
found the file in the wrong folder and moved it to the correct
folder
using the PC. then, another brilliant idea! Hey, why not rename
it
while i've got it on the computer and then i'll access it on the
Mpower. Wrong! I just assumed that i could change it's name
using
Windows XP and still be able to access it on the braille Note. i
couldn't get to it. MPower wsn't recognizing it even when i
changed
its name back to the original file name...no go.

Another brain storm idea. I thought well maybe i could access it
through duxbury since it's a braille file and all. After all, i
had
converted .doc's to braille files and used them on MPower, right?
Wrong, again! couldn't pull it up and still can't access it
through
MPower. did i mention that i was tired? anyway, i refuse to
write
all those notes again which would mean rereading the entire
chapter.
Lord, how i miss highlighting.

Please, tell me that there is a way i can access this file.
Please!
any hhelp is desperately needed.

paula
