Welcome to the list, and congratulations on moving to an Apex!!

Well, the buttons are sometimes less sensitive than the old units, but
they definitely should work. As much as it pains me to say it, you may
have to call HW and see if they will repair the unit.

As for keychat, you can talk to anyone on Google Talk, Jabber, or any
XMPP network (except Facebook chat or other customized XMPP services).
Personally, I recommend getting a GMail account; this gives you access
to a very easy-to-use mobile web interface for checking email on the
bn or a pc, plus you get a Google Talk account and access to a lot of
other Google services.
