Sure, it is possible. While the emails are being downloaded, press SPACE
with E (ESC), then I to "end the session immediately."

Hey!  I got it!  It's downloading 105 emails out of 229.  Is there a way to 
stop it if I don't want to download all of the emails at once?  Just 
curious!  This is a tremendous list!  I'm ffiguring everything out with 
assistance from many of you.  Thanks!
