Well, I'm sure HumanWare will develop a VOIP client. Alternatively,
HumanWare may be able to collaborate with other companies to permit BN users
to connect to a bluetooth device which supports skype. That may present
other issues however.

Maybe what we are looking for, then, is just a client that would allow for
real time transfer of what is being spoken, just forget the idea of skype.
Basically, with the bn, you cannot really use anything that is pre-existing
for other platforms, at least not without major modification.

you don't need all that stuff. Just the basic skype without video.
Even chatting would be ok.like key skype. lol.

Hi,
I'd personally say it is certaintly possible to do it - the problems
would be ones Alex has mentioned below. In terms of hardware, I'd say
it'll come to fruition if it is confirmed that KeySoft is indeed
utilizing the available hardware resources. A major problem (actually
two) is that it would only work well on Apex alone due to hardware
and OS configuration.
The
other problem might be a misconception that just because Skype works
does not mean other VOIP software will "simply run" on Apex. The
first concern deals with what Alex said; the second concern is mostly
confusion associated with programmability and compatibility.
Cheers,
Joseph

Even if HumanWare is willing to support the use of skype on a
BrailleNote, is it possible given the current hardware and firmware
used in the units? Is it possible to collaborate with skype
developers?
HumanWare
and skype developers would need to see if their application codes are
compatible, right? And what happens when skype updates firmware? To
my knowledge, video conferencing would not be an option.

Hi everyone!

I'm absolutely loving my PK, but to be blunt, the formatting
indicators in the word processor are driving me insane. The manual
doesn't seem to describe how to suppress them or disable them
entirely, and I'm not even sure if it's possible to do so. Ideally, I
would like the content on the PK's display to look similar to that
which is produced by a screen reader like Jaws or WindowEyes. Any and
all assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Try this:
1. Open a document in keyword (any document will do, as the settings
we are going to change are global but only show up in keyword).
2. Go to options (space-o) and select braille options by pressing b.
3. Move down to the "show new lines as" option and select one by
repeatedly pressing space-3-4. I have mine set to indent one cell, so
new lines will appear not as ed sign p, but rather as a space on the
left edge of the display. Pick whichever you want, then hit enter and
exit the menus.

Hi, I would like, some day, to see skype on the apex. I brought this
up on the braillenote list before, but people said that there are not
hw staff being active on the list. So I decided to copy you as well.
Can you please try to integrate at least IM and voice chat for skype
on the braillenote, possibly redoing keychat so that one has the
option for keychat or skype?

Thanks!
